This week we are launching a brand new collection of Limited Edition Sabra Silk kilim cushions and pouffes. Sabra (or cactus) silk is a unique material which is woven from fibres of the Agave plant, so unlike conventional silk, it is completely vegetarian. In a similiar process to the extraction of flax fibres for linen, the long leaves of the Agave are soaked and then crushed to separate the filaments and fibres for weaving.

Traditionally Sabra is only ever coloured with natural dyes which leave the delicate structure of the fibres undamaged. Finished fabrics can either be very fine with a slight sheen (often used for scarves and decorative panels) or heavier and more textured.

Our Sabra collection has been made with the latter and the finished pieces are robust and very tactile. The natural dyes produce delicate colours with a slightly washed-out, vintage look.
