Begin with the basics - it is important to have the right foundations before you can really get going with the fun part of styling a bed. For bedlinen, we always opt for good quality fine white cotton or linen sheets and an abundance of pillows - two slightly firmer under pillows with (ideally) gorgeously soft goose down pillows on top. These not only balance the length and width of the bed, but provide the perfect height for displaying additional decorative cushions that tie in with your interior.
A little tip for keeping your bed linen looking fresh for longer – bring your freshly washed linen in to iron when still slightly damp, and use starch to keep your sheets crisp and crease-free!
Bedspreads are an ideal way to bring colour to a bedroom, and you can often base your whole colour scheme around them. Not only do they inject the colour and texture on which to build the whole room’s colour scheme, but they are a great update for Autumn/Winter, adding that extra layer of warmth. Our bedspreads are designed to be extra long in order to allow for maximum styling. We favour the following two ways of styling our bedspreads…
1 - The Covered Bed
This technique is more commonly used with bedspreads that have an overall symmetrical design. To achieve the ‘covered bed’ look, you will need to start by removing your pillows. Place the bedspread on the bed so the top edge reaches the headboard, and then fold it back a pillow’s depth (remember to allow for the height of the pillows, not just the depth). Position the pillows and pull the bedspread back over them, defining the crease by running your arm along the underside of the pillows. This will leave you with a clean, structured shape without jeopardising the spread’s wonderful design – note the bed below!
2 – The Fold-Back
The second method is more suited to a plain bedspread or one with a small pattern. Place the bedspread on the bed and pull the bottom corners down to the length you desire before pulling the top corners up to the head of the bed. Fold this back roughly three quarters of the bed’s length, and then back again over itself to create a perfect plump fold. This gives a look of effortless comfort and is a beautiful finishing touch to any bed.
We cannot talk ‘bedrooms’ without talking ‘cushions’! We love to introduce cushions of varying sizes, colours and patterns to create a cohesive yet eclectic look. Using rich colours and maximising textures will embrace the change to the Winter season, while introducing a throw with co-ordinating tones will emphasise the cushions’ deep colour palette and really create that cosy, effortlessly harmonious feel everyone is after.
