The Story

These wonderful botanical Cyanotype prints are made entirely by hand and have been carefully printed onto vintage vellum paper. Created by the new French brand Invincible Été (meaning Invincible Summer), they are a uniquely poetic interpretation of the traditional Cyanotype process.

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a deep cyan-blue print and was discovered by the scientist Sir John Herschel in 1842 as a means to reproduce diagrams. This unique process creates a cyan blue silhouette when an object is placed on a reactive surface and develops in UV light, and was later used by engineers in the 20th century to produce blueprints. Herschel inspired his friend, Anna Atkins, a botanist, who made cyanotype images of the flora she collected, earning her place as a founding mother of photography.

Birdie has carefully selected fourteen striking prints to either sit together in small curated groups or to work as stand alone pieces. Each print has been embossed manually and has been framed in a bespoke box frame with the paper carefully float mounted to accentuate the natural texture of the surface.
