Limited Edition Silk Embroidered Kantha Stitch Cushion - Square
Our Limited Edition Kantha Stitch cushions have been carefully made by artisans in India using Kantha panels from SHE (Self Help Enterprise). SHE works with nearly 900 artisans throughout Bengal to produce traditional Kantha embroidered panels.
Kantha is an ancient Bengali stitching technique dating back to the Buddhist Era when old fabrics and saris were layered together and joined with tiny stitches to create warm wraps and quilts. As block printing and mass production developed in the late 19th century, interest in Kanthas and their labour intensive manufacture dwindled. In the 1940s an arts college was founded which began to work with local tribal women to help them earn in income by producing Kantha shawls and panels.
The creation of SHE has helped to re-establish the Kantha technique and introduce it to new audiences across the globe. The artisans who create the panels are often neighbours who work on their textiles in between tending their families and flocks. Skills are now being passed down to the younger generation again and brought to disadvantaged communities as a way to generate an income.
The SHE Foundation also contributes to health services in small villages and has provided medical support in surgeries, installed water pumps and provided nutritional supplements to villagers.

Collect from Store
Click and Collect is available at the checkout and orders are available for collection 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
We will get your order ready as soon as possible and you will be notified via email that your order is ready for collection.
Collection orders ordinarily take 1 working day to be fulfilled, although this may change in busy periods. If you need to collect urgently, please give us a call on 01328 851651 and we will arrange this for you.
Social distancing guidelines must be maintained throughout collection. Returns must be sent back via courier.
Returns and Exchanges
You have a right to return your order under the distance selling regulations for any item purchased on a fixed priced sale for a full refund within 28 days. However, you must take reasonable care of the item/s. You will be responsible for the shipping costs both to and from your address.
Sale items are returnable within 14 days after receipt in return for a full refund. Sale items returned within 14-28 days after receipt will be exchanged for a credit note.
To cancel your order you must advise us by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org before your order is dispatched.
All parcels are sent back at your own risk. We advise using recorded delivery as the parcel is not our responsibility until we sign for it.
Please note: We only accept the return of items if sent back in original unused condition; we reserve the right to reject items that are returned in what we consider to be an unsaleable condition.
