Lucy Innes Williams - Shirley Temples at 9
This painting is part of a new collection of floral bouquet paintings from artist Lucy Innes Williams. Each painting is a contemporary, re-imagining of the traditional still life oeuvre. Wooden shapes appear seemingly suspended in a box, much like a Victorian collector’s display. Taking inspiration from painted textile design, ceramics and folk art, the collection is joyful, and designed to work as a stand alone artwork, or a complement to a gallery wall hang. Lucy spends time collecting floral shapes in Cornwall's gardens and flower farms.
Painted on meticulously hand-drawn and laser-cut poplar wooden boards, each shape and bouquet is entirely unique. Lucy’s paintings celebrate the presence of the human hand in their expressive, intentional mark-making and the visible suspension of water and paint across their vibrant surface. Paintings are floated within a tulip wood tray frame with colours chosen to complement the painting's palette.
Lucy is based in Falmouth, Cornwall. She received her BA (Hons) Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art.
