Whether you're planning a low-key Mothers Day brunch or a show stopping number for your own mother or your mother in law, creating a homemade tablescape is one of the easiest ways to show the matriarchs in your life that you love them dearly. I'm literally brimming with joy and can't wait to explain how to customize your tablescape to honour the women who mean the most to you!
What are your top tips for creating the perfect tablescape for Mother’s Day?
Start by sitting down and thinking about your mothers personality and choose a few symbolic colours that echo your Mother's favourite things in life - like gardening for instance. How about creating a look based around her herb pots, flowering plants and topiaries? Place them in the centre of the table and then choosing a floral tablecloth, rattan placemats, and dishes that coordinate with the rest of the table - and the surrounding garden! Try building your tablescape around a single item that you know she loves and that doubles as a unique centrepiece and a nostalgic conversation starter. I love to match my menu as close as possible with the decoration of the table - here I would opt for scones with raspberries, or a fresh green salad that gives that farm to table feeling.
Which is your favourite tablescape that you have created?
If I'm really pushed, I would have to say the floral tablescape that I did for the front cover of Caras Deco magazine in Uruguay at the end of last year. This floral tablescape feels so warm and that's exactly how I want the experience from the table to be. The Birdie Fortescue tablecloth depicted the theme for this table - an abundance of florals and green foliage that echo the surroundings. The table linens and placemats added layers of texture and colour for a harmonious finish!
What are your favourite Birdie Fortescue dining pieces from our new SS23 Florentine Collection?
I think the rattan napkin rings are so versatile and very unique - I can see them being styled on both smart, and also less formal, rustic tablescapes.
The pink rattan placemats are so feminine! I just adore the green and pink combination - it's joyful and relaxing at the same time.
The Shido vases filled with garden flowers are such a wonderful finishing touch to any table!
