Amunet AW26: Ancient Egyptian Inspiration for Autumn Interiors
9th September 2026

As summer fades and the days begin to shorten, the way we live at home naturally changes. We return indoors, lamp light replaces long evenings outside and our interiors become layered with richer colour, natural materials and comforting texture.

It is this seasonal shift that sets the scene for Amunet, Birdie Fortescue’s new Autumn/Winter 2026 collection. Inspired by Birdie’s travels through Egypt, Amunet brings together tactile textiles, atmospheric lighting and timeless furniture in a colour palette designed for autumn and winter interiors.

The story of the collection began among Egypt’s ancient monuments, where Birdie discovered intricate murals, painted borders and decorative motifs that have endured for thousands of years. Rather than reproducing these details literally, she has reimagined their colours, forms and symbolism for contemporary homes.

The meaning behind the Amunet collection

The name Amunet means “the hidden one”. An Ancient Egyptian goddess associated with mystery and the unseen, she reflects the sense of discovery at the heart of the collection: beauty revealed gradually through colour, craftsmanship and decorative detail.

For the Ancient Egyptians, interiors were about far more than decoration. Colour, imagery and carefully chosen objects expressed identity, status and spiritual belief. Walls, furniture and textiles were enlivened with scenes from nature and symbolic motifs, while repeated forms brought harmony and balance.

This considered approach runs throughout the Amunet collection. Look closely and you will find echoes of painted borders in embroidered textiles, the depth of ancient pigments in its autumnal tones and the rhythm of historic motifs in its lighting and furniture.

The result is an Ancient Egyptian-inspired interiors collection that feels rich in character yet effortless to live with: a meeting of historic influence, contemporary design and Birdie Fortescue’s signature style.

An autumn colour palette inspired by Egypt

Colour provides the visual thread running through Amunet. Oxblood red, dusky denim blue, moss green and earthy walnut recall both the richness of Ancient Egyptian decorative arts and the changing landscape of autumn.

As bright summer light softens, these deeper tones come into their own. They bring warmth and depth to a room while remaining calm enough to coordinate with existing pieces, making them an easy way to refresh an interior for the season.

Layered textiles offer a natural starting point. The collection’s block-printed, knitted and embroidered cushions have been designed to mix and match, bringing softness, colour and character to bedrooms and sitting rooms.

Aswan Trellis Embroidered Cushions bring a geometric motif and textural detail to a bed or armchair, while our Ella Embroidered Suzani Throw adds warmth and a relaxed richness. Layered at the foot of a bed and paired with a Hana Raffia Headboard, these pieces create a comfortable, inviting bedroom for colder mornings and early winter evenings.

Each element adds interest while the earthy colour scheme keeps the overall effect harmonious and considered. These simple seasonal layers can refresh a room without requiring an entirely new interior scheme.

Layering lighting for autumn and winter

As the evenings draw in, lighting plays an increasingly important role in shaping the atmosphere of a room. A combination of table lamps, wall lights and pendants creates gentle pools of light, allowing an interior to feel warm, layered and welcoming.

Rampur Woven Pendant Lights combine natural fibres with a coloured trim, bringing texture and definition to a dining room. They create a statement with their strong design while their woven surfaces diffuse the light, creating a softer atmosphere for long suppers and evenings spent around the table with friends and family.

For a quieter corner, a Petal Brass Wall Light casts a warm glow. Its elegant floral form pairs beautifully with the tactile frontage of our Hana Raffia Chest of Drawers, creating a lovely arrangement in a hallway, bedroom or sitting room.

Beside a bed or favourite reading chair, a Bilari Table Lamp and Kurna Striped Pleated Lampshade combine practical light with colour and decorative detail. The pleated shade gently filters the light, while its striped design creates a crisp contrast against the natural texture of a Hana Raffia Side Table.

Together, these pieces demonstrate how layered lighting can transform autumn and winter interiors. Each design is practical, but also decorative in its own right, introducing shape, texture and subtle drama to a room.

Timeless walnut and raffia furniture

Amunet’s furniture collection draws on Birdie’s experience as an antiques dealer and her appreciation for pieces with character, craftsmanship and lasting appeal.

While the collection’s decorative motifs look back to antiquity, its furniture takes its cue from the clean design and restrained proportions of more contemporary continental pieces. Rich walnut, hand-painted raffia and understated details are combined to create timeless furniture that feels elegant without becoming formal.

At the centre of the collection, our Walnut Inlaid Pedestal Table provides a handsome anchor for autumn and winter entertaining. Its sculptural base and warm walnut tones give it a confident presence, while the inset brass detail adds to its elegance.

Paired with Mekong Upholstered Dining Chairs, the table becomes a place for everyday moments as well as special occasions: from a quiet breakfast on a grey morning to a candlelit dinner with friends.

An interiors collection designed to be discovered

At the heart of Amunet is Birdie Fortescue’s belief that a home can feel worldly and collected while remaining comfortable, calm and easy to live in.

Ancient artisanal detail is balanced with contemporary proportions, versatile forms and an instinctive approach to layering. Like the Egyptian interiors that first inspired it, Amunet rewards a closer look. An embroidered detail, an inlaid motif or the coloured edge of a woven lampshade reveals itself gradually.

These thoughtful details give each piece character. A richly embroidered cushion can refresh a favourite armchair. A tactile raffia cabinet can anchor a bedroom, while a woven pendant can turn a dining table into the heart of the home.

Individually, the pieces offer effortless seasonal additions. Layered together, they create autumn and winter interiors that feel expressive, harmonious and gathered over time.

“When creating Amunet, I was fascinated by the many layers of colour, pattern and craftsmanship I saw when exploring Egypt’s monuments - details that have lasted for millennia. I wanted to capture that feeling of discovery and reinterpret it in a way that feels relevant for contemporary homes: pieces that are rich in character, beautifully crafted and designed to be lived with for years to come.”
