At Birdie Fortescue, we are incredibly proud to continue our support of The Better Future Collective, renewing our sponsorship of Sneh Girls Shikshan Sansthan (SGSS) - a small school for girls in Jaipur, India, for another year.
Supporting Education Where It Matters Most
Located in Luniyawas, Jaipur, SGSS provides free, high-quality education in a safe and nurturing environment for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many students face significant barriers to education, whether through financial hardship, domestic responsibilities or cultural expectations that can limit opportunities for girls.
By removing these barriers, the school helps young girls gain the confidence, knowledge and independence to shape brighter futures for themselves, their families and their communities.
Birdie's Connection with India
India has always been an important source of inspiration for Birdie and remains close to her heart. Our longstanding relationships with skilled artisans and suppliers are central to everything we create, from beautifully handwoven textiles to intricate craftsmanship throughout a multitude of products that celebrates generations of traditional techniques.
With a passion for travel, discovering beautiful places, its architecture and decorative arts,, Birdie is a regular visitor to India. Each trip is an opportunity to seek inspiration, source new collections and spend time with our colleague on the ground, Sunil, as well as visit the talented artisans and suppliers we work with.
We believe it is important to support the communities that make our work possible. Through The Better Future Collective, we are proud to contribute to a project that invests in the next generation.
About The Better Future Collective
Founded by Daisy Fellowes, the creative force behind the thoughtful homeware brand Kapara London, The Better Future Collective brings together like-minded businesses to support educational opportunities for girls in Jaipur.
Working alongside Sneh Girls Shikshan Sansthan, the collective helps provide free education in a safe, encouraging environment, giving girls the opportunity to remain in school and pursue ambitions that may otherwise have been out of reach.
As Daisy explains:
"We're focused on education, specifically supporting girls in Luniyawas, a struggling area in Jaipur, by helping them go to school. We've teamed up with Sneh Girls Shikshan Sansthan (SGSS), a school dedicated to providing free, quality education in a safe environment. Many girls in impoverished families miss out on school because they're needed at home or because education isn't prioritised for them. We want to change that narrative and give these girls the chance they deserve."
More Than an Education
Our sponsorship helps provide far more than classroom learning. It contributes towards school uniforms, books and supplies, nutritious meals, healthcare and the everyday support the girls need to thrive throughout their education.
Knowing that our contribution helps create a stable, supportive environment where these students can learn with confidence makes this partnership especially meaningful to us. We're incredibly grateful to receive regular updates from the school and the students we support, and whenever she's in the area, Birdie visits to spend time with them in person.
The Girls We Sponsor
We sponsor three remarkable students through the programme. While each has her own interests and ambitions, they all share an enormous enthusiasm for learning and a determination to build brighter futures.
Their stories are a powerful reminder of the difference access to education can make - not only for each individual girl, but for future generations.
Our Girls:
Lavanya
At 10 years old, Lavanya is a quiet, thoughtful and talented student with a passion for nature. She loves learning about the environment and spends her free time caring for the plants she grows at home. Despite her family's financial challenges, she has the highest attendance record in her class and continues to excel at school - what a star!
Neetu
Neetu is a bright, artistic 10-year-old who adores drawing, dancing and helping her classmates learn. Inspired by the support she's received through SGSS, she dreams of becoming a teacher herself. Her determination reflects her hope of creating new opportunities for future generations of girls like herself.
Tanisha
Fourteen-year-old Tanisha is a lively and enthusiastic student with a remarkable aptitude for mathematics. Recognised as one of the fastest learners in her class, she enjoys solving maths problems, drawing and taking part in school activities. With big ambitions, Tanisha dreams of one day becoming a pilot - how exciting!
Looking Ahead
Education has the power to transform lives, opening doors to opportunity, confidence and independence. We are so proud to play a small part in helping these young girls pursue their ambitions and look forward to continuing our support for many years to come.
As we renew our sponsorship, we remain incredibly proud to support The Better Future Collective, Daisy Fellowes, Kapara London and the dedicated team at SGSS.
