Birdie Fortescue is thrilled to unveil a vibrant new homeware collaboration with award-winning garden designer Butter Wakefield, launching just in time for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025
The Nasturtium Collection: A Celebration of The English Summer
A Floral Collaboration
The Nasturtium Collection is a joyful celebration of the English summer garden and marks Butter’s first foray into interiors. Brimming with pattern, colour and character, the collection brings the outdoors in and reflects the creative energy shared between Birdie and Butter.
A Shared Passion for Pattern and Colour
Long term friends with a mutual love of colourful design, Birdie and Butter have often found inspiration in each other’s work. Their idea to collaborate evolved naturally after Birdie visited Butter for an ‘at home’ interview in 2024. “I love Butter’s eclectic approach to tablescaping, full of quietly clashing colours and an abundance of flowers,” says Birdie. The collection channels exactly that spirit - layered, expressive, and full of colour.
The Iconic Nasturtium
At the heart of the collection is the humble nasturtium - one of Butter’s favourite summer flowers - translated into an exuberant printed design in a vibrant mandarin orange. This lively floral motif is showcased across tablecloths, napkins, and a runner, all elevated with a smart inset bind. The pattern also appears on the ricrac-trimmed Nasturtium Cushion and the bold Nasturtium Drum Shade, both designed as statement pieces to brighten garden rooms and indoor-outdoor living spaces.
Trellis and Tôle: A Summer Statement
Taking inspiration from classic garden designs, the collection introduces a striking trellis motif. This is featured on hand-painted Tôle Trellis Trays and Planters, finished with playful over-sized ball feet. “These hand painted pieces are really special to me,” notes Birdie. “No two are identical.” With Butter’s practical eye, the planters have been carefully sized to suit a wide variety of plants while doubling as elegant decorative pieces.
The Maypole Glass Collection
Maypole, a collection of glassware, is hand-painted by artisans in a loose, expressive style that captures the carefree spirit of summer days. “Butter specified the vase dimensions, right down to the width of the necks, to provide the perfect vessel for cut flowers,” explains Birdie. Available in cheerful colourways - pink with mandarin, and blue with green - the glassware includes a generous vase in two sizes and a beautifully hued lamp base in a two-toned green, designed to enhance any table or console this summer.
Finishing Touches for Summer Living
The collection is rounded off with bold new signature stripes, featured across pleated lampshades, cushions, and table linens. Presented in fresh colour pairings - “Sunset Stripe,” a contrasting blend of mandarin and pink, and “Garden Stripe,” a lively mix of blue and green - each piece is thoughtfully designed to evoke the joyful spontaneity of summer entertaining. Our organic yet whimsical Palm Leaf Candlestick perfectly embodies the fusion of Butter’s exuberant styling with Birdie’s timeless aesthetic.
