Lessons In Lighting
25th September 2023

A good lighting scheme is key to any room, and it’s important to think about how you can adjust lighting according to its purpose, the time of day and the season. We've designed our lamp bases and lampshades in a range of shapes and textures to suit both traditional and modern interiors alike, and to be styled all year round. This season we celebrate Lisbon’s architectural decoration with two new lampshade designs, Azulejo and Sintra, and welcome back our best selling designs, the Edo Stripe and Pent Raffia. Create visual warmth and ambience this Autumn with our newest lighting additions.

Meet the Abacus Bobbin Floor Lamp

A unique take on the bobbin trend, the Abacus Bobbin Floor Lamp has been hand carved to create a statement floor lamp that will illuminate and lift any corner of your interior. Designed with bold proportions that are both contemporary and playful, this Floor Lamp is ideal for placing beside an armchair or sofa. Choose from four colourways, including three rich jewel tones in red, green and blue, or opt for a soft taupe as part of a neutral scheme.

Pattern Up or Pare Down With Lampshades

Lampshades are a geat tool for adding character to your interior - using colour, texture and print to tie a scheme together or to add a fun, pop of colour to a darker corner. Our collection of lampshades have been designed to mix and match with different bases, to harmoniously sit with all our designs, and to fit in perfectly with your existing schemes at home. Whether you’re looking to achieve a minimalist or more maximalist look, our lampshades are easy to style.

Pare down

Lampshades can say a lot about an interior and can be the perfect finishing touch to your scheme. If you’re looking to create a calming effect with a pared back scheme, we would advise pairing your favourite lamp base with one of our Seema or Pent Raffia lampshades. They are timeless yet have a contemporary, textural look that is the perfect staple for any interior. For a coordinating look, match the binding of the lampshade to its base or opt for a contrasting colour for visual impact.

Pattern Up

If like us, you love to ‘pattern up’ a scheme with combinations of print and colour, then look to statement lampshades to achieve this. For a fun and interesting look, pair your lamp base with a geometric or striped lampshade in colours which feature throughout your scheme. Opt for our most-loved Edo block printed lampshade for a timeless and clean look or for the checkerboard Azulejo Block Print Lampshade to instantly elevate any lamp base. For maximalist interiors, larger geometrics and florals work wonderfully - our Sintra Pleated Lampshade paired with an Abacus Bobbin Floor Lamp are our new season essentials for a fun, vibrant scheme.

When mixing prints in a scheme, it is particularly important to use colour to create visual balance, using coordinating tones throughout your lampshades, soft furnishings, art and paint colours. Make sure to echo colours which feature in your lampshade or base elsewhere in the room to bring harmony to your ‘patterned up’ scheme.
