Katie Mawson
Katie originally trained as a textile designer and for many years ran a successful knitwear studio. She has recently changed her focus to her art which explores the balance of colour within positive and negative spaces. Katie works exclusively with vintage book covers to create her work. She slices, cuts, rips and skins the marked and faded cloths from their boards before transforming them into something entirely new. The rich history of these materials is key to Katie’s work and references her interest in the juxtaposition between the pure wildness of her Lake District home and the beauty that can be found in urban decay. Katie takes a fluid approach to her practice, allowing a piece to evolve throughout the process of arranging and placing. Her ultimate goal is to create work that is tranquil and completely balanced.
