Imprint Casts - Framed Miniature Botanical Intaglio Collection II
This collection of miniature botanical casts was inspired by Grand Tour intaglios amassed by travellers during their voyage around Europe in the 18th century. The modern botanical interpretation has been created by artist Katy Eccles using a selection of seasonal flowers consisting of ammi, cosmos, listhianthus, sweetpeas, snowdrops and Japanese Anemones. Each intaglio has been crafted through a unique casting technique that captures the delicate imprint of botanical forms. The flower heads and foliage were gathered by Katy during walks through her garden, local woodlands, and the hills surrounding her studio.
Katy carefully presses the botanicals into soft clay before delicately removing them, leaving behind an intricate impression. A special blend of plaster is then poured over the clay to preserve the botanical indentation and give it a permanent form. She uses a variety of miniature frames and moulds to create an array of shapes for these miniature casts. The background of each botanical intaglio has been hand-painted in a mixture of hand blended paints with a green hue and framed in a complementary Farrow & Ball Oval Room blue box frame.
