We are Turning 10!
12th June 2024
This month we are celebrating 10 wonderful years of Birdie Fortescue! Read on to find out a little bit about our exciting journey so far.

The Beginning

A journey that started for Birdie in London in the late 1980s ...

My style was ultimately shaped during the five years I spent under the generous tutelage of Imogen Taylor at Colefax and Fowler. Working with her was a masterclass in understanding proportion, balance, and color. Her knowledge and kindness encouraged me to set up on my own as an antiques dealer and interior designer.

In 2014, our family moved to North Norfolk, where I took on a Victorian warehouse in Burnham Market as a Norfolk base for my antiques business. The building was so large that we decided to transform the space into an interiors destination, where antique furniture could sit alongside homeware and art. I soon began designing and creating my own collections, collaborating with talented artisans across the globe.

I designed my first collection of block-printed soft furnishings for Spring/Summer 2016. The success of this range enabled us to launch collections on a twice-yearly basis, which we are fortunate enough to continue today, alongside collaboration collections. My very first range included block-printed table linens, cushions, and rugs, which gradually expanded to include lighting, decorative accessories, and furniture.

Travel

My lifelong love of travel is at the heart of the design process. Trips to Asia, Africa, and Europe inspire color palettes, prints, and patterns, and provide valuable sources for handpicked one-off pieces.

Locations

As the business grew and our sales increasingly moved online, we relocated from Burnham Market to set up our offices and warehouse in Fakenham. We continued to do pop-ups in Burnham Market and recently enjoyed a fabulous eight months in London. We now enjoy meeting our customers in our showroom in Holt, an idyllic market town on the Norfolk coast.

Our first Collaboration

In the past year, we were thrilled to join forces with Sarah Corbett-Winder to produce a fabulous collection that we are extremely proud of. It has been a great success, and we look forward to some exciting new collaborations in the months to come!

Thank you

Our interiors are timeless and versatile, aiming to bring a sense of calm and balance alongside functionality and comfort, reflecting the many aspects of our personalities and those of our customers. Designs are interpreted through initial sketches to detailed drawings, redrafted multiple times before arriving at a final version. They are then hand-painted and digitally colored before being sent off to the relevant teams.

Every collection is thoughtfully curated to create timeless interiors, designed by us, and curated by you.

We couldn’t have achieved this without you, so a very big thank you to all of our loyal customers and team members who have enabled us to get to where we are today.  It’s been a fantastic 10 years, and I am looking forward to exciting times ahead...
